SAP HANA Backup Strategy

Hi All,

 

I need to design the Backup & Recovery strategy for one of my customer. They are migrating their non-SAP (Oracle) application to HANA and it is a scale-out. They are currently backing up their oracle database using Linux script and then to the storage using 3rd party tool.

 

Can I opt the same method for HANA backups using Suse Linux crontab (schedule the script to the local file system) and then use the 3rd party tool for storing it to tape. As per my understanding this method backs up the data and log is automatically backed up, but I am just wondering about the configuration files. Is there anyway to automate this as well. Kindly suggest any other strategies.

 

The db size after the compression is 6TB and so how can I calculate the backup destination disk size.

 

How much time it might take for 6 TB db backup.

HANA Database process not starting after installation

Hi Folks,

 

I installed a non-production HANA system on a VM. I am trying to install SP09 of the platform edition. I selected to install the multitenant installation.

 

the installation completed without any issues. But I am not able to connect to the SYSTEM database.

 

i can login as the OS user <sid>adm but not as the Database user. Also i check the processes and i only see

Compiler

Deamon

nameserver

preprocessor

webdispatcher

 

i think there should also be indexserver and xs server.

 

unable to get much on the logs.

 

First time installing the HANA platform as it is the first time we are using a VM. The other systems we got were HANA appliance so it came pre-installed.

 

any pointer will be much appreciated.

Hana Studio LCM Deploy Hana Content

Hello All,


 

When trying to deploy a Hana content through the Hana studio LCM tool I'mgetting the following error message:

 


Could not connect to database with instance number 0 on host myhostname.

Possible reason: unavailable connection to database or wrong instance number.

SAP DBTech JDBC: Cannot connect to jdbc:sap://myhostname:30015 [Cannot connect to

host localhost:30015 [Connection refused], -813.].

To give you more background this is a multitenant DB converted from a single one. The steps to expose the http access to the multitenant DB were already completed, below are the current webdispatcher parameters:

 

wdisp/system_0

SID=IH1, EXTSRV=http://localhost:3$(SAPSYSTEM)14,

SRCVHOST=myhostname.com

 

wdisp/system_1

SID=IHA, EXTSRV=http://localhost:3$(SAPSYSTEM)08,

SRCVHOST=bwhanadev.com

SID=IHD, EXTSRV=http://localhost:3$(SAPSYSTEM)08,

wdisp/enable_admin_ui_for_sid

I see two things, first one the instance number is not being retrieved as it should be (00) and second, the Hana internal process is looking up for the 'localhost' instead of the hostname, I tried to modify the hosts file but got the same result; also I tried to hard-code above parameters with no luck.


Any help would be appreciated.

SIGNAL 11 (SIGSEGV) crash in indexserver

Hi HANA Experts,

 

A product in our company uses HANA as the data storage, I am doing the performance testing for product. When I used small table (5million rows/500 columns) it functioned well, however after I ramped the data size up to 20 million rows and 1000 columns, the HANA indexserver crashed and restarted automatically.

 

Sorry that this product is like a blackbox to me and I cannot tell what it does to HANA server while I testing the functions. I understand this information is important, but could you at least help me check the crashdump file and see what the possible cause? The crashdump file is in the attachment.

S&OP Add-on Error in HANA

sap hana studio 2 - is there a version 2.91.0?

I recently upgraded our SAP HANA Database, Client, Studio and Host Agent to Rev 91 on linux.  Since then, when I go back in to HANA Studio and check for updates for our system, it is still saying SAP HANA Studio needs to be updated on our server.  It says current version is 2.0.8 and target version is 2.91.0.  I have tried reinstalling but get the same result.  Anyone else seeing this?

Issue in getting the count when joined with time data

I noticed an issue with the calculation of the number of values after the change in the M_TIME_DIMENSION table. Basically it looks like now that we also have the granularity “hour” we get the calculated measure not as count 1, but count 24.

Here is what I mean:

 

The formulas I’ve used to calculate the number of are all similar to:  if("PriorityDescription"='Error',1,0) bzw. if("PriorityDescription"='Warning',1,0), etc.

 

In the systems (where we have granularity of „day“) we get as expected per row (ID) either count 1 or 0, only number of (total) Alerts is constantly 1. Aggregation type is always SUM

 

 

When I use the same formulas and aggregation in a system where we have granularity „hour“ then i get 24 and 0 instead of the expected 1 und 0

 

 

 

When you look at the count values in HANA Modeler (in data preview under „Distinct Values“) those seem to be correct  (Gesamt-Alerts: 657, Errors: 294; Warning: 265; Info: 98).

 

However when the aggregation is applied you then get the wrong values (everything multiplied by 24)

Issues in installing Web IDE

Hi,

Question regarding SAP Smart Data Access

I am configuring SDA on HANA. Installed the SQL Drivers. Created a DSN and Remote Share.

 

I have 4 databases in SQL Server and the SQL login I used for Remote Share - has got DBO Access to all the 4 databases in SQL Server 2008.

But somehow, I can only see one SQL database on the SDA side. Other 3 databases are not visible on the SDA side.

 

I have checked everything on the SQL Side.

One thing which I am not clear is - on the SDA side, it shows Adpater as SQL 2012.

 

Can HANA SPS7 connect to SQL 2008 servers or not?

 

Any help will be useful.

HANA Scale-out MCOS

Hello Experts,

 

We would like to install a BW ABAP system on our scale-out HANA appliance which has also another BW system installed on it. We are trying to achieve a MCOS setup on our HANA appliance

 

We would like to have your feedback if this would be feasible and what would be the drawbacks and advantages in applying this setup.

 

Also, we would like to ask if MDC (Multi-Tenancy Database Containers) is applicable or can be configured for MCOS once SPS 9 has been released

objects owned by a user in HANA

Hi Folks,

 

I have a question is there a way to get to know what all objects are owned by a particular user.

I was trying to drop one of the users and i am getting a message to use the cascade option. But before doing it i want to know what all objects are owned by the user so that i can take a call to drop the user.

Is there any view which gives this information.

Calculation Logic

Hi All,

 

My Requirement is like - Master data table (Example below) having employee ID, From_Date.and To_date.  Based on the current date, I would return data that is valid for today.

 

Example, My desired output would be from below table is only EMp_ids. since emp_id's are ignored since to_date is expired based on current date.

 

Table:

 

Emp_id  From_date To_date
can you some one please give me suggestion to achieve this logic.

Indexserver crashed on Master and Slave node

Experts

 

Some of the Services failed ( indexserver, name server ) today in our production system which is a multi node ( 4 nodes). lot of dumps in the trace directory and when navigating it found the following error

I see the same error on tall the failed nodes. What does this Signal 6 mean and what needed to be done to prevent in the future.

 

We are at 1.00.82.00.394270 (NewDB100_REL). I see some notes for Signal 10 but not many for Signal 6.

 

I am going to put a message to SAP as well.

Projection VS Aggregation in SAP HANA

Hi All,

Could some one please help me the difference between projection and aggregation while creating a calculation view

a) What is difference between projection and aggregation used to create a calculation view

For me both behaves in the similar way. I used the efashion data to model a calculation view. my calculation view consist of one analytic view which provides me the data for Amount Sold, Article Id, Year and Week Id

If I remove the week id from the output of calculation view then then Amount sold gets aggregated automatically at year level while using a projection or aggregation between the output of calc view and analytic view. If i use week id then the aggregation does not happen at year level immaterial of the fact I use projection or aggregation

Plunging into SAP HANA

Hi

 

I have total 9+ yrs of SAP MM/WM/SD experience experience (and over all 16+ yrs) all through implementations and rollouts.

 

Now I am feeling stagnated in my career; SAP HANA is a buzz word.

   

Wanted to move into it after doing certification; but have the following queries:

 

 

  1. Will it be a right decision to move into it without any prior BI/BW experience.
  2. Will I get an entry into new projects of SAP HANA.
  3. Does BI/BW experience preferred over other SAP module/functional  experience; in which case it will be a difficult enviro to compete.

 

The market I am working in is US and Australia.

 

Please suggest;

Inside my function i am just trying to return a string after doing some select queries and operations. I cannot use scalar UDF because it does not support SELECT queries and if i make it table UDF then i get the above specified error. Can anyone suggest what am i missing or an alternative to achieve my purpose?

Calculation View Performance

Hi,

We built calculation (main) view based on some custom calculation & HANA live. While executing the main view is taking 5 min to display 5000 record.

 

How to find out performance of this view ?

Which join is taking is long time ?

 

Please suggest.
