Indexing in sap hana?

Hi,

 

Can any body guide me to understanding Index concepts in hana?

 

a) I know Column stores are optimized for reading and data in column stores are compressed.

 

Will hana system takes care of creating index(s) on column store tables or we need to create them ?


If Yes, how to create indexes on column store tables and what are different types of index available?


If No, why?


b) If we create a primary key for a column in table, will that wont work as index (like in oracle) or still we need to create index(s) on row-store/column store tables?

 

Please answer my basic questions or provide any references for the same.

Error during a support package update (HANA)

Hello,

 

I´m trying to update our HANA system, but during the update the system show me the following error:

Error Message: Execution of 'Update from single SP' failed.

Detailed Message: Could not update software component(s) sap.com/HDB on host satdha03.

Execution of operation update-newdb-server-nzdm-v2 failed. Exit code of the operation is 1.

Command execution failed.

Help: http://help.sap.com/hana

 

I checked the logs and I attached them in this thread.

 

I also see this:

  Checking system requirements failed

    Performing HANA platform check script failed

      Performing python script failed

        Starting external program /usr/bin/python

Update SAP HANA system process executor failed

 

So I believe this is related to the hardware check.

I tried to solve this situation with the following solution described in the following links:

Regarding SPS4 revision 29 update from SP3 | SCN

SAP HANA Installation in Oracle VirtualBox VM | SCN

HANA PE 1.0 SP6 Installation with Oracle VirtualBox / SUSE - Part2 - YouTube  (between the 5:50 and 8:40 minutes)

 

But it doesn't solved anything... it continues with the same error during this update SP`s activity!

Can you help me please?! This is an urgent sittuation!

How to create a HANA Database?

Hi All,

 

I am trying to test the speed of a HANA database by creating a table and loading some data onto it and do some ah-hoc SQL against it.

 

Since I am new to HANA, I read the developer guide, registered for the free 1G account, downloaded the HANA Studio and using the HANA Cloud Platform Cockpit, all trying to create a table in a database and so far failed.

 

It seems from the Cockpit, I already have a HANA instance named dev, also there this a dev Schema created already.  The question is how I can create my table within the Cockpit?  Also how do I hook up the HANA Studio to my trial account?

Load profit center hierarchy into HANA

What is the best way to load the profit center hierarchy in ECC into HANA?

 

We use SLT and the transaction data could be replicated perfectly, just we are wondering how to get the hierarchy into HANA? Can we use SLT?

For developement i found lots of subjects about the web-based development workbench but nothing about a web-based administrating tool.

Process to Upgrade SAP HANA from SPS06 to SPS07 on distributed systems

Hi Experts,

 

We have a requirement to upgrade our SAP HANA system system from SPS06 to SPS07, but I have below queries on the same:

 

1) Do we need to consider any Notes before applying the upgrade for pre and post steps (as per my knowledge we have to consider post upgrade note: 1962472, are there any other too?)

2) As per my knowledge, we just need to stop SAP app systems and then backup of HANA system

3) Also we have a distributed environment in our landscape (three multiple hosts), what could be the upgrade approach, is it same as like single host environment (as /hana/shared will be the common to all distributed hosts)

 

Could anyone clarify my questions please.

 

Also for your information we have BW systems on top of HANA DB

HANA Locked Login scenario

This would be an extremely unusual case but  I can't find additional documentation on it.  If
you have set the Lock For parameter to indefinitely and I have locked down the
SYSTEM user,  is it possible if the system is hacked or  manually to lock
all the logins?  If so what is the correct solution resolve the issue.

 

This is possible in other DBMS and there is  usually a
backdoor if all the logins get locked.   I understand that SYSTEM doesn’t
participate in max failed logins but  I believe it’s a best practice to
lock SYSTEM manually once the DBA logins are created.

Procedure to generate time demensions using System date

Hi Experts,

 

I have created a Table having time dimensions such as Year start date , Month Start Date , Week start date etc. Now i need to write a stored Procedure to Populate all the above time dimensions of this Table based upon Calendar day for last 5 years and also 15 years going forward.

 

Can you please guide on writing the Procedure for this.

Never ending Creating system during the installation

Hi there

 

So, we were on Hana sp06, then decided to upgrade existing environment to Sp08 as a blank installation, since this is a sandbox system for internal testing.

I've attached the printscreen with the initial installation window and also the status of the services.

 

All hana services are up and running, but this Creating System option never go away, even after few hours.. When i try to login into Hana studio with System account then it says that my pass is incorrect, most likely user is not created

 

What can be wrong with this?

Manage the maximum memory allocation in SAP HANA Systems

Hello,

 

I´m with some doubts regarding one thing about the management of each HANA instances. At this moment I have one appliance server that has 130Gb of RAM and it has one SAP Hana system (instance) installed (SID Hana: HL1) but today I want to install in the same appliance another SAP Hana system (other instance) called HL2! But my goal is to split the RAM memory between these two Hana systems (HL1 and HL2). During the installation of HL1 I didn´t restrict the maximum memory allocation value and I think I should had done this restriction right here at this stage, but I didn´t...

 

I´m talking about this following screen during the installation of SAP Hana system (HL1):

So now, as I said before, I want to install another SAP Hana system (HL2) in the same server/appliance but before doing that I want to know how can I manage the maximum memory allocation that is set to the HL1 instance and if it´s possible to decrease the allocated memory to 75Gb RAM! How can I do that? Is there any parameter that is set to the HL1 instance...!? Can you help me please?

I have a statement running which is halting the system.

 

Host: hana

Service: indexserver

Hierarchy: 0

Thread ID: 25529

Thread Type: SqlExecutor

Thread Method: ExecuteStatement

Thread Detail: ALTER TABLE  "DM"."B_DIMM3" DISABLE DELTA LOG

Duration [MS]: 2129231  <----

Caller:

Calling:

User: SYSTEM

 

This should take seconds.

So, I want to Kill this process/thread.

 

Does anybody know how?

Two ABAP stacks on single HANA appliance in MCOD

Hello folks,

I have one open question for this great community of experts.

 

According to SAP note 1661202 - Support for multiple applications on SAP HANA it's possible to install BW on HANA and NW AS Java in MCOD on one HANA.

However, it is not confirmed, if it's supported to install BW on HANA and Netweaver AS ABAP on single node.

I know there's MCOS, but that is not supported for production.

 

I just talked about this with Andy Silvey and we are both not sure.

Dear all,

 

It would be great help if you can provide some inputs on how to write SQL functions/procedures to run in parallel. For example, need to write stored procedures or functions to run for more than 10000 articles within 2 to 3 minutes as per business expectations. The business logic involves lot of checks and validations based on article type.

 

Please help me out how to take it forward on writing SQL queries insde stored procedures/functions to run in parallel.

"After Update of Attribute_name on Table_name " trigger not working properly

Hi All,

 

  • Trigger for  "After Update of Attribute_name on Table_name"
  • Objective : Fire trigger only when update on single attribute (column), not for all attributes.
  • It works fine in Oracle, PostgreSQL but not working properly in HANA.
  • In HANA it fire on every attribute of table, instead of specified (e.g. region in following script)

 

CREATE TABLE salestest (region VARCHAR(100), product VARCHAR(100), amount INTEGER);

CREATE TABLE salestest_dummy (region VARCHAR(100), product VARCHAR(100), amount INTEGER);

 

insert into  salestest (region, product, amount) values('IN', 'cold coffee', 10);

insert into  salestest (region, product, amount) values('US', 'cold coffee', 20);

 

select * from salestest; // Display 2 rows

select * from  salestest_dummy;// Display 0 rows

 

CREATE  TRIGGER salestest_after_update

How to trigger alert Column store unload for reason :unused resource

Good day,

 

I have an issue with the column store unload.

As for this alert in hana studio, there are 3 reasons for the alert. Reason: Low memory, Explicit, Unused resource.

 

First one is lack of memory, so the column table is unloaded. Second is because someone unloads a column table by SQL. These two reason we can see easily and they are usually main reasons for this alert. However, i can't trigger the last one.

 

Is there any good method to trigger it?

I attached some screens files of the workaround.


Any help will be appreciated.

No valid SAP crypto configuration

In HANA XS Admin console am getting a notification as "No Valid SAP Crypto Configuration" warning - could you please let me know how can i get rid of this error.?

 

I have configured SSL and placed crypto libs as required for the setup.
